Alicia + Ahmad | Married May 28, 2017
How Alicia + Ahmad met and got engaged (from their questionnaire):
“Ahmad is originally from Massachusetts and I am from Michigan. We met on the Disney College Program Internship working at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. He was doing his externship for culinary school and I just loved Disney and wanted to work there. We met through a hot food service window; he cooked the food and put it in the window and I sold it to the customers. Ahmad decided to stay in Florida once his externship was done and began working for Disney full time, but I moved back to Michigan to finish my degree at Grand Valley. We ended our relationship but decided to remain friends. After a year of being “just friends”, we decided to give long distance dating a chance. It was extremely hard, but we knew that we were committed to each other and that it would be worth it in the long run. After a year of long distance dating I moved to Orlando and the rest is history!
As for the proposal – I had always wanted to be with a guy who knew me so well he could surprise me with a getaway weekend and pack my bag for me. One Friday morning in October, he woke me up and told me we had to go somewhere. He took me to the airport and handed me a ticket to Detroit. Once we got to Detroit, he took me to a pre-seaon Red Wings game (we are both huge hockey fans) where we sat 2 rows from the ice. We were so close you could hear the players talk to each other, it was amazing! On Saturday, we drove to Grand Rapids and explored ArtPrize before having a delicious dinner at Cygnus 27. After dinner, he drove me to a park where my friends had set up candles, wine and dessert. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! My friends and family had been hiding, but once they saw us hug they ran out to celebrate with us! The next day, we went back to the east side of the state and he surprised me with an engagement party. We had friends fly in from Boston, Atlanta and Miami to be there to celebrate with us, it was truly an amazing weekend.”
