Last Saturday I had the pleasure of 2nd shooting for my dear friend Holly Henderson for Jenn and Matt’s wedding. If you can believe it, I’ve never been the designated “2nd shooter” before, so this was a great opportunity for me to relax from the normal responsibilities of the main shooter, and photograph some things I rarely get to shoot such as the groom prep. Most of the time I’m doing bride prep, and my 2nd shooter covers the guys… so it was fun to be “back with the boys” again and focus on the groom’s side of the wedding day.
The Ceremony and Reception were both at the beautiful “Gull Lake Country Club”. The Ceremony took place right by the lake. I snapped a few details while I waited for the wedding party to arrive with Holly.
Here are a few favorites from the “groom prep” part of the day.
All the groomsmen had “hip flasks” (their groomsmen gift) with them.
Matt is all dressed and ready to go.
Nothing wrong with a quick sip before the ceremony…
Matt looking studly …
I really love this next shot. the lighting was really cool… and I love the way its composed.
Todd the Pastor looks over his notes before the guests started to arrive.
Some last minute coordination before the ceremony…
Love the fabric in this shot as it blows in the wind …
Another favorite… I love it when little opportunities pop up to capture the ceremony in a unique way.
My “2nd shooter / not straight down the isle” kiss shot. : )
I love outdoor weddings because you get such great depth of field on everything. This shot of the flowers jumps out at you against that smooth green blurred background.
A quick candid of Jenn in the wind and sun.
I didn’t shoot many portraits as I was holding a reflector for Holly, but I managed to grab this image right at the end of our portrait shoot.
One last “fun” shot before we went to the reception.
An interesting / new approach to photographing the first dance… I like how the chairs not only frame the couple, but also match the lines/triangle shape of Jenn’s dress.
Anyone want to guess how I lit this? It’s not Photoshoped other than a little color balance in the skin tones (and there’s no burning in of the dark areas or vignetting at all). Guesses anyone?
And to close out a beautiful and fun day… a sparkler exit!
Thanks so much Holly for letting me 2nd shoot with you, and congratulations Jenn and Matt! It was a blast!
